ANZSSA works with national and international organisations to advocate for strong, student-centred tertiary education systems across Australia and New Zealand.

Through strategic engagement with peak bodies, government agencies, and sector partners, we help shape national conversations on student wellbeing, safety, participation, and success. We contribute practitioner insight to policy development and sector initiatives, ensuring student services leadership informs the design of sustainable, evidence-informed improvements.

Our collaborations also support the sharing of practice, capability uplift, and continuous improvement across the student affairs and services community, strengthening outcomes for students in diverse institutional contexts.

 

National Sector Engagement

ANZSSA contributes to and engages with key national bodies and initiatives, including:

• Universities Australia – Collaboration on sector-wide priorities relating to student experience, wellbeing, and safety.
• Universities New Zealand – Engagement with the New Zealand university sector, reflecting ANZSSA’s commitment to supporting members and practice leadership across Aotearoa New Zealand.
• National Student Safety Survey – Technical Working Party (led by Universities Australia) – Contribution to sector oversight and continuous improvement in student safety data and practice.
• headspace – University Support Program (Sector Advisory Group) – Advisory input to youth mental health initiatives within tertiary settings.
• National Student Ombudsman – Engagement on national student complaints and accountability frameworks.
• Office of the eSafety Commissioner – Collaboration on online safety and digital wellbeing.
• Australian Department of Education – Sector dialogue on higher education policy, equity, participation, and student outcomes
